NetVision® Phone Enables Voice Communications over Spectrum24® Wireless LAN
Building on its history of technological innovation, Symbol Technologies has expanded its data transmission capabilities to include voice communications over wireless local area networks (LANs). This enables organizations to expand their network functionality to offer both data and voice transmission, thereby increasing productivity and maximizing return on investment. Symbol Technologies' Spectrum24® wireless LAN is an open architecture, high-performance, high-throughput network that quickly and accurately communicates data back and forth between host systems and mobile devices. Symbol has already enhanced Spectrum24® by providing one- and two-way paging capabilities, adding text messaging to the data communications capabilities of the Spectrum24® network. Symbol is further enhancing the functionality of the Spectrum24® network with the addition of wireless phones for real-time voice communications. NetVision® Mobile NC software allows businesses to use mobile computers with minimal processing power and memory, unlike current popular processing-intensive operating systems and browsers that require increasingly powerful hardware. The thin client browser technology provides integrated bar code scanning, user definable on-screen pop-up keyboards and tool bars. It also allows network managers to collect information and manage work flow on the network.
NetVision® Wireless Phone Adds Functionality
and Flexibility Symbol Technologies' NetVision® Phone adds voice communications capability to the data communications capabilities of a Spectrum24® wireless network. The NetVision® Phone system provides on-site voice communications, as well as a gateway to the outside world, allowing users to tie directly to off-site phone systems. It also allows users to utilize their corporate data intranets for voice transmission, enabling significant reductions in toll charges and pager and cell phone subscriptions. The NetVision® Wireless Phone is a small, lightweight, fully- featured unit that's easy to use and designed for "out-of-the-box" operation. Call notification is by ringer, vibration or visual signal; talk time between battery recharges is 4 hours; and it is ruggedized for use in most retail, warehouse, manufacturing or healthcare environments. The NetVision® Phone uses voice compression hardware and software to convert and translate analog speech into digital voice packets that are sent over a network as data packets. The NetVision® Phone system employs the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) standard H.323 protocols for real-time multimedia teleconferencing over the Internet and corporate intranet. The NetVision® Phone also functions as a pager and a walkie-talkie enabling simultaneous multi-party communications.
