Cash Drawers
come in many different flavors. M-S cash drawers are one of the finest
made drawers available in the world. You will find that the roller
mechanism's, lock's, steel construction of the body and the electronics
within are made to last a lifetime. Several sizes are available, and as
you can see above, the organizer provides a "Cash Register" look to your
"Point of Sale" station.

Cash Drawer Options
|
 |
Media Slots
- Media Slots are the horizontal slots located on the face of
the drawer itself as pictured above. Drawers can be ordered with
or without media slots. They allow a cashier to insert checks,
coupons, etc... into the drawer without opening the drawer.
Media that is inserted via the slots falls inside, under the
money tray and out of a customers view when the drawer is
opened. |
|
 |
Drawer Locks
- Some models have a single lock in the center of the drawer and
some models have dual locks, the additional lock can be found on
the right side of the drawer and uses a different key lock than
the center lock. Each drawer can be ordered with up to 99
different key sets per lock for an additional fee. |
|
 |
Cash Drawer Keys
- For security reasons, keys for these drawers are NOT readily
available, duplicate keys can NOT be made by your local
locksmith. Each drawer comes with two keys per lock and
additional or replacement keys can be ordered. |
|
 |
Cash Drawer Sizes
- See specific part number information below for each cash
drawer size. |
|
 |
Cash Drawer Interfaces
- The electronic interface for these drawers is dependant on
several different issues. See the following subtitle below for
an explanation of the different interfaces. |

Flip-Top Tray & Locking Lid
|
 |
Inserts (Money Tray)
- All of the below cash drawers include a money tray in the
price. The default money tray is standard for U.S. currency and
has 5 bill and 5 coin partitions. Optional money trays are
available for other countries. Ask your account representative
for specifications on alternate trays. |
|
 |
Locking Lids
- Locking lids allow a cashier to remove the money tray and walk
to the back of the store past customers without showing the
world the cold hard cash. Providing these keys only to a
supervisor is a good idea for absolute control over cash before
the tray makes it back to the accounting department for close
out. |
|
 |
Organizers
- An organizer is a frame that mounts on top of a cash drawer,
as pictured above. The organizer is deeper from front to rear to
accommodate an added compartment that allows you to hide all of
the cabling from the peripheral devices sitting on top. This
gives you a "cash register" look and feel. The peripheral
devices supported are:
|
|
Far right corner (raised platform) supports a 9" VGA or 14" SVGA
monitor. |
|
|
Front edge of raised platform supports a mountable credit card
reader. |
|
|
Far left corner of raised platform supports a customer pole
display. |
|
|
Far left corner supports a 40 column receipt printer. Star,
Citizen, Ithaca, Epson. |
|
|
Entire front supports 101 enhanced keyboard or programmable
keyboard. |
|
|
 |
Compulsion
- Compulsion is a fancy word for "HEY, the drawer is open".
Rather, an internal micro switch that sends a signal to the
computer when the drawer is open. Most, and I mean most,
software does not support compulsion. Custom software packages
may support this feature if the programmer knew this feature was
available when the software was written. This is a very
difficult feature to program into software to begin with and
typically you want some kind of recording event and freezing of
the software to take place if the drawer opens if it happens at
a time when the drawer should not be open. |
|
 |
Mount Brackets
- Mounts brackets are allow you to mount a cash drawer under a
counter-top in-lieu-of placing the drawer on top of the counter. |

SCDI Card
Cash Drawer Interfaces
-
"K" Model - This is the most inexpensive way to connect a
cash drawer to your POS system, but requires the use of a 40 column
(grocery store style) receipt printer. This is the most common type
of drawer in use today since most POS software supports the receipt
printer and the cash drawer being tied to the same port. The drawer
does not care whether the printer is serial or parallel. Further
this type of drawer is simply a non-intelligent drawer with a
solenoid that waits for voltage from the receipt printer to open.
The open drawer code is determined by the particular printer used in
your application. There are no instructions that come with these
drawers since they are non-intelligent. Consult your printer manual
or your sales representative for cash drawer open codes. The
interface cable is included since it is hard wired to the internal
solenoid and the type of connector on the end of the cable is
determined by the specific model of printer.
-
"SCDI"
(Standard Cash Drawer Interface)
- The SCDI Kit is a
PC-ISA or EISA compatible cash drawer interface. This expansion card
allows you to plug a "K" Model 12 volt solenoid operated cash drawer
into its RJ12 interface. The device driver can emulate non-existent
parallel and serial ports and devices. The drawer will open on a
single specific character or when any character is sent. There is
also a drawer logon option that can note to an independent disk file
the time and date of each drawer opening. An alarm, using your PC's
speaker, can sound if the drawer is opened manually. Additionally,
manual and programmed drawer open time and duration can be logged to
the hidden drawer log file, and the alarm can sound if the drawer is
left open too long after the sale. The drawer open/close status can
be returned to the POS software superimposed over any parallel or
serial port status bit. Finally, the SCDI will support 2 cash
drawers.
-
"KSC"
Model - This is the next step up in price and is
identical to the "K" model except for the interface. This is a
serial port drawer and can be plugged directly into any serial I/O
port (COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, or terminal AUX port). The drawer can
be ordered with either a DB9 female connector or a DB25 female
connector. The "KSC" drawer operates a little different than its "K"
model counterpart in that you open the drawer by sending any 8 ASCII
characters to the serial port. Please note that the baud rate must
me set to "300,N,8,1". Faster baud rates may be used but more
characters will have to be sent. You should use this drawer when
there is either no printer connected or when an 80 column printer is
connected but they can reside on separate ports.
-
"KLIC"
Model
- This is the most expensive model since it is a
universal intelligent drawer, which means that the drawer can be
parallel or serial and it can be daisy chained with any type of
printer 40 or 80 column or it can sit on a port by itself. It can
also be daisy chained with other "KLIC" model cash drawers.
Additionally, the open drawer code can be set to any of the first
256 ASCII characters via dip switches located in the back of the
drawer. This is the drawer you must use if your software requires
that the printer and cash drawer be located on the same port and you
are not using a 40 column receipt printer. This drawer also gives
you the most flexibility where system changes are concerned since it
can accommodate any future arrangement of drawers/printer
type/interface.
-
"FT" Model - This is the widely used European Flip Top
Drawer. The tray has 8 coin slots and 5 bill slots. It is solenoid
operated like the "K" model. The lid pops open toward the customer
to block their view of the contents of the money tray. Paper
currency in the tray is stored in a vertical stack as opposed to the
traditional U.S. flat stacking. This feature reduces the footprint
of the drawer in it's depth.
